So finally, the show has been confirmed. The beginning of abstract expressionsims return to the conscience minds of New England. Optimistic yes, but a fantastic show has been scheduled for the Freight Street Gallery in Waterbury on August 8th. The show features work by Peter Smolenski, Erica Harney, Jacob Pongratz, Mike Detelj and myself.
This show is just the beginning. In order for abstraction to come back to the stage, a grouping of its creators must collaborate and bond around its ability to move. In my short time as a professinal artist I have come to find that abstract artists are some of the best artistic souls on the planet. Always willing to collaborate, spark new thoughts and ideas, but more importantly they lack something that growns in other forms of art: ego. Not true for all of course buty when was the last time you heard of portrait artists collaborating on one painting. Abstractors are the cream of the crop.
Here, familiarize yourself with some of their work:
Peter Smolenski: One of the most creative and passionate people in the art community. Reclusive at times but quickly becoming a personal muse.
Erica Harney: An amazing vision is tied in closely with Ericas work. The ability to take that which is recognizable and turn it completely on its head.
Jacob Pongratz: Jacob is someone whos ability to tweek color and strangle the life out of it is completely unmatched. Pay attention to his work, it continues to get better.
Mike Detelj: Mike is my pseudo prodigy and just emerging as an artist. This will be his first major showing and with it, the beginning of a life-long passion of abstract art.
Finally, new work which I am rather excited about. The new work features slight three-dimensionality. This new work will be on display at the opening in August.
So why is abstract expressionist art so special? It communicates to you without you even being aware of it.
