Perhaps not a completely new direction. However, this new work is certainly an evolution form my paintings. These three-dimensional pieces are created from foam, then covered in a fiberglass resin. They are then sanded, primed and then painted in my usual style.
This first piece you are seeing, entitled “-1 (negative one)” is the first run at this type of work. I am still very much learning about how the process will work more smoothly as I develop this style of creation. I will slowly make my way towards more oganic forms and creating multiple layers of these paintings. This piece can be viewed at the Freight Street Gallery in Waterbury until September. There will be 3-4 of these evolved works at the show in October with Peter Smolenski.
I feel as though this work far better compliments my artistic vision. It is abstract expressionism on top of abstract expressionism. How can that evolve? How many dimensions can I create?
