My Project ‘Tweets in Real Life’ Goes Viral

I wanted to post about a project I started a couple months ago.  The idea is to take peoples tweets that they write on Twitter and apply them to real world situations.  The project is applicably named ‘Tweets in Real Life’.   So I started to print out these stickers and paste them in the real world as a way to connect our digital lives with our physical lives.  It also adds something to the social conversation in our everyday routines.  I thought it was a tremendously fun and meaningful project.

I had put up about 20 by the time I actually got photos on my website (I only photographed about half).  After I had a few up, I put out one tweet about it.  From there, the right person(s) must have seen it and soon it was on a blog.  Then a dozen blogs.  Then hundreds of tweets. And soon Washington Post and Wired bloggers are emailing me.  Clearly my little project had gone viral and this is really a first for me.  More than a week later, it is still spreading.

I thought the project was clever and had its merit but never could have dreamed about how much attention it got.  I am grateful to whomever put out the initial word and got the ball rolling.   In the mean time, I am enjoying my (most likely) brief 15 minutes and will continue to put up these tweets wherever I go.  Oh, and I will be in Europe this summer….

  1. wow! I truly never pictured one of my tweets being at a cemetary. On twitter you can’t just say you are at a funeral without clarifying, interesting how a distant relative’s funeral is such a universal experience. I am glad to be a part of your project.
